Welcome to VirtualDSGELab - Version Thales 1.0.1!!

We are excited to officially launch VirtualDSGELab v. Thales 1.0.1—an open-access interactive platform designed to make the workhorse machinery of macro-econometric modelling transparent, accessible, and deployable. As the suite of available models expands, particular emphasis will be placed on policy components—in line with the original view of DSGE as a laboratory for assessing and forecasting the impact of policy interventions.

Key Highlights in this Version

  • This 🚀 Pilot Version 🚀 introduces the project, concepts, and core architecture.

1. Illustration via Interactive RBC & 3-Equation NK Models

  • Real Business Cycle (RBC) model with fiscal policy module: Adjust structural and fiscal policy parameters to assess the impact of public financing regimes on macro-dynamics and expenditure shock transmission.
  • Canonical 3-Equation New Keynesian (NK) Model: Adjust discount factors (\(\beta\)), price stickiness (\(\theta\)), and monetary policy responsiveness (\(\phi_{\pi}, \phi_{y}\)) under Taylor rules to examine monetary transmission.

2. On-Demand Dynare & Octave Integration

  • Each user-requested simulation spins up an isolated backend workspace running GNU Octave and Dynare.
  • Computes rational expectations steady states, linear approximations, and 36-period Impulse Response Functions (IRFs) on demand.
  • More toggles and user-defined features can be integrated in revisions based on user feedback.

3. Call for Collaborations

Coming Soon: Monthly Newsletters & Macro Analysis

Starting this month, this News & Releases feed will also host our regular Monthly Macroeconomic Newsletter.

  • What to expect in upcoming issues:
    • Policy Insights: Deep dives into central bank inflation targeting, interest rate rules, and supply-side shocks using our DSGE models.
    • Model Notes: Explanations of core DSGE theory, structural parameter calibrations, and solution methods (Dynare, perturbation techniques).
    • Platform Updates: Announcements on upcoming model additions, including Heterogeneous Agent (HANK), Expectations-Frictions, and Open-Economy modules.
